compost barrel prototype

this is a mockup of the compost barrel that is being used at the k.p.s site. the barrel is plastic with drilled holes, has a lid to prevent rain from getting in, a hinged door to remove the compost at the bottom, and sits on a concrete base. members from the youth group were able to build the prototype on their own, decreasing the production costs (steve sets the holes in the pic above). right now, we are able to produce the barrel for approximately $20 usd, though we hope to get a better price on the barrel to make it more affordable. the design comes from dhaka, bangladesh where it has been scaled to city-wide use, and we thank waste concern for their help in transporting this technology to kenya!
