One of our two projects in Haiti is a fee-for-service project with the non-profit organization Northwest Haiti Christian Mission. This organization has been serving the Northwest of Haiti, the poorest region in the country, for over thirty years. NWHCM has numerous programs throughout the region including orphanages, health clinics, and agricultural development. They have a number of campuses throughout the region and are also the region’s largest employer. During our last visit in Haiti we stayed on their campus in St. Louis du Nord where they have a health clinic, maternity clinic, children’s nutrition program, orphanage, school, elderly housing, and a special needs center and orphanage called the Miriam Center. Our project with NWHCM is designing a new campus for the Miriam Center as it has grown, in part, because it is currently the only orphanage of its kind in Haiti. During our stay in Haiti we visited two other NWCHMcampuses, one in Beauchamp and the other in Shansoine.
